Daylight Donuts, Republican Party Donates to Salvation Army

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in national and state policies to shelter at home, policies which may be creating more financial, physical and metal hardship than the virus itself.

Fortunately, Yavapai County is blessed with a Salvation Regular army organization that has risen to the task. The Corps normally provides 5 to ten food boxes to needy residents per week. Since the pandemic began, it has provided more that 400 food boxes weekly (more than xl-half dozen k pounds of food), served two hot meals six days per week, and providing cleaning supplies, utility and other assistance to families, individuals, and other surface area charitable organizations, such every bit Community Coalition for Justice (CCJ) and Meals on Wheels.

Recognizing the stress placed on the Salvation Army, the Yavapai Canton Republican Party, led by nurse and Yavapai College nursing instructor Selina Bliss, donated a pickup truck load of nutrient and cleaning supplies and $2,000 in greenbacks and gift cards tot he organization. The supplies and dollars donated were the result of a "Coffee and Donuts" weekend fundraiser held at Daylight Donuts on Whipple St, Prescott.

Several members of the community, including Harry Oberg, fellow member of the Yavapai County Republican Executive Committee and candidate for Yavapai Canton Board of Supervisors, District 1, took this opportunity to donate portions of their stimulus checks to the Salvation Army as well. Bliss, running for Arizona State legislature, and friends Kara and Steve Forest, Daylight Donut owners/operators, rallied the Republican Party to organize the donation outcome offering coffee and donuts to political party members bringing donations through their Drive Thru service. Political party members, pleased to exist providing assistance, streamed through the bulldoze thru line, rather than stopping to socialize and enjoy their coffee and donuts.

"We missed the esprit of getting together," said Bliss. "But people recognized the demand and brought supplies and greenbacks that tin can assistance our community members." Oberg, Party Vice Chair, said, "Prescott and Yavapai County are blessed to have a wonderful Conservancy Army and a caring community, a combination that is hard to crush. We are pleased, equally Republicans, to be able to assist. Nosotros encourage others to join us past altruistic to the Conservancy Army to brainstorm the process of returning Prescott to its normal vibrant self."
